The Malaysian government is supportive of the initiative taken by the Perdana Global Peace Organisation, headed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, to organise the three-day War Crimes Conference and Exhibition, which starts here Monday.

“The Malaysian government is supporting. One of the Ministries has donated a considerable sum of money for this conference and I believe that the Prime Minister’s Department too has contributed…I don’t know about other governments, only about the Malaysian government,” the former Prime Minister revealed at a press conference here, today.

He said the conference this time around would emphasise on war crimes, starting with an informal discussion among invited participants on the subject today at the Legend Hotel.

The public can learn more about how to write the Jawi script through a computer software program on CD-ROM called K-Jawi, which will be made available soon. The program, contained in eight CDs, will be distributed first to schools and educational institutions, government departments, non-governmental organisations and the media, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said yesterday. 

“The move will hopefully help the Government address the erosion of the usage of Jawi script and popularise its use among the people at all levels,” he added.

RTM will continue with its plan to have an international channel with the launch of Measat 3 recently, Director-General of Broadcasting Datuk Abdul Rahman Hamid says.

The proposal would be submitted to Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin soon, he said.

He said the plan to have an international channel was mooted in 2002 but was shelved due to several factors including cost.
