I don’t know whether this is a good news or bad news to you guys … but Goverment has decided that there will no party at Dataran and KLCC for New Year countdown & also no spectacular fireworks for this year celebration.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the Dataran Merdeka celebrations had been called off out of respect for Hari Raya Haji, which falls on the same day. “However, everyone is invited to join the Prime Minister at the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 launch at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa on Jan 6,” he added.
As for KLCC, a spokesman said there would be no celebrations there that night but declined to say why. However, celebrations and accompanying fireworks are expected to go on as usual in most places here and in Kuala Lumpur and at Genting Highlands. At the Curve in Mutiara Damansara, a carnival-like atmosphere is set to take off with activities that include a concert featuring Jaclyn Victor, Reshmonu and other artistes. Meanwhile, 1 Utama Shopping Complex will see a street party at its Central Park Avenue.
At the Sunway Theme Park, there will be a dinner and dance beach party with a special appearance by the 45 finalists of the Miss World Tourism contest.
The Bintang Walk in Kuala Lumpur will come alive with its usual street party and concert featuring Chinese singers.
Over at Genting Highlands’ First World Plaza, guest artistes will entertain the crowd and keep things lively until fireworks light up the sky just before the countdown.
Deputy Minister of Internal Security Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said permits for the fireworks displays had been approved and issued to organisers of celebrations nationwide.
