Tourists can now go to 42 major attractions in Kuala Lumpur in just one bus – KL Hop-On Hop-Off – a uniquely designed, Malaysia’s only semi-glass roofed double-decker bus.

I don’t know whether this is a good news or bad news to you guys … but Goverment has decided that there will no party at Dataran and KLCC for New Year countdown & also no spectacular fireworks for this year celebration.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the Dataran Merdeka celebrations had been called off out of respect for Hari Raya Haji, which falls on the same day. “However, everyone is invited to join the Prime Minister at the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 launch at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa on Jan 6,” he added.

Internet access to overseas websites improved somewhat for beleaguered users two days after an earthquake in Taiwan damaged undersea cables that relayed data between the Asia Pacific and the United States. Users reported better response times yesterday compared to Wednesday, as telecommunications companies across the region scrambled to tackle the outage. 

“It’s a bit better now, but still too slow for my liking,” said Andrew Lee, an engineer who lives in Ampang. 

Action taken by TM Net and Jaring, the country’s two main Internet service providers, to reroute traffic to alternative links on Wednesday appears to have helped ease congestion.

Seems like TMNet has already installed a system to block international torrent port. TMNet has recently installed hardware that is able to control P2P via deep packet inspection of the traffic passing through its network. These devices are able to detect and limit / throttle P2P data transmission – including encrypted torrents.

It is the longest international seabed fibre cable network, 19,000km in total length, in the Asia-Pacific, linking China, Japan, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Singapore, and onward to linking America, Europe and Australia. The network went into operation in October 2002 for the initial phase.The project was spearheaded by 26 telecommunications companies, namely Advantel, Cable & Wireless Global Network, Cable&Wireless HKT, China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, Concert, Global Network Services, Global One, Japan Telecom, KDD Corpe ration, Korea Telecom, KPN, Layer 2, MCI, WorldCom, Metromedia Giber Network Service, NTT Com, NCIC, OneLink Cable Network, PLDT, StarHub, SingTel, Taiwan Fixed Network, Teleglobe, Telekom Malaysia, Telstra and Williams Communications.

We wish to inform our customers that the Internet service is currently experiencing a degradation in performance caused by several outages at some of the international links.  This is attributed to the Richter 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck off the southern coast of Taiwan at 12.07 a.m. on 27th December 2006, which caused the APCN2 (Asia Pacific Cable Network 2) submarine cable fault between Shantou, China and Tanshui, Taiwan and between Lantau, Hong Kong and Chongming, China.
