Bright Future For Satellite Industry

The future of the satellite industry globally is bright considering the phenomenal growth of applications dependent on satellite technology, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Smart Digital Communications Bhd Khairuddin Abdul Rahman said here Saturday.

Khairuddin, who is here as one of the CEO panellists on the development of satellite services in the Asia-Pacific at the Satellite 2007 Conference (Feb 19-22), said Malaysia was one of the emerging countries experiencing this growth with the expansion of Interactive Distance Learning; VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol); IPTV (Internet Protocol TV); Asset Tracking; and Digital Signage for advertising.

The military and law enforcement authorities were increasingly using various applications using satellite services to monitor and eradicate piracy, smuggling and terrorist activities around the Straits of Melaka and the South China Sea, he told Bernama in an interview.

‘Ops Sikap XII’ Achieved Objective

The “Ops Sikap XII” road safety campaign met its objective to reduce fatal accidents during the Chinese New Year festive period, said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy.

He said that as at midnight last night, 190 fatalities averaging 13.6 deaths daily were recorded during the two-week operation against a 17.2 daily death rate on normal days.

“This shows that Ops Sikap XII is a success although the number of deaths is still high. However, it can be considered low if compared with the 100 to 200 per cent increase in the number of vehicles on the roads during festivals,” he told reporters at a Chinese New Year open house organised by Tawau MCA at the Sin On Hall here today.

Festival Teater Kanak-Kanak Kuala Lumpur mengenengahkan pementasan teater khusus untuktontonan kanak-kanak, remaja mahupun dewasa. Festival ini juga bakal diisi dengan persembahan seni lain seperti puppet, wayang kulit, bercerita, persembahan muzik sebagai selingan dan mewujudkan kemeriahan festival tersebut. Bengkel-bengkel turut diadakan bagi memberi peluang kepada peserta untuk meningkat pengetahuan mengenai teater kanak-kanak. Beberapa aktiviti sokongan program ini turut diadakan di luar Kuala Lumpur (outreach programme) bagi memberi peluang kepada lebih ramai khalayak untuk menyaksikannya.
